Who you’ll be supporting & more about the role:

If you’re looking for an exciting role where no two days are the same, then look no further!

We are recruiting experienced, confident Support Workers to support a 30-year old man who lives in his own home in Broxburn.

This gentleman has autism, a learning disability and epilepsy, which can be unpredictable, so he’s looking for calm people who can help to provide reassurance during challenging periods.  He can become fixated on things, so confidence in redirection and maintaining strong boundaries would be of great benefit to him.

He uses a wheelchair to get around and is able to move this himself, but would love to spend more time getting out and about and enjoying what his community has to offer.  This gentleman is really interested in trains, buses, ice-cream vans and bin lorries and would enjoy sharing his interests with his staff.  He also enjoys listening to music, feeding birds and recycling.

In addition to supporting with hobbies, his staff will be required to support with medication administration, personal care, shopping, cooking and everyday support tasks.

It is our goal to promote his independence as much as possible, so you will ensure you promote choice by using social stories to help him understand situations.  Previous experience of using communication aids would be very beneficial.

At present, we are recruiting for full-time, part-time and bank staff to work a variety of shifts from Monday to Sunday.

As we are just getting to know this gentleman, there is no set shift pattern at this time but all contracted staff will be required to work a share of the waking night shifts and the weekends.

Your values:

Community Integrated Care is one of the UK’s largest health and social care charities. We work hard to enrich the lives of people with many different care needs. It’s exciting and rewarding work, and we’re full of pride and passion for what we do.

Care to join us? Perhaps you have previous experience as a Care Assistant or Support Worker, or you’ve worked alongside individuals with autism or learning disabilities? We would also welcome applications from resilient individuals with transferrable skills from other sectors as we will provide all the training you need to be successful in your role.
